Democratic National Convention Kicks Off

First Night Features Speeches from Leading Politicians

PBS NewsHour will provide special coverage of the first night of the Democratic National Convention, starting at 7 p.m. ET. NewsHour Politics Reporter Daniel Bush will provide analysis and insights throughout the evening.

The convention will feature speeches from former first lady Michelle Obama, Sen. Bernie Sanders, former President Bill Clinton, and other high-profile Democrats.

The convention is being held virtually this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the organizers have promised a "dynamic and engaging" event that will showcase the party's platform and values.

The Democratic National Convention is the first in a series of major political events leading up to the 2020 presidential election. The Republican National Convention is scheduled to be held from August 24 to 27 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
